Milton Creek Country Park

Milton Creek Country Park, described on its website as Sittingbourne’s newest green space, has an interesting history.  Surrounded by industrial and residential areas, the 128 acres was previously a landfill site.  This was capped in 2003 as the first step in creating the park.  Now the area provides a number of different habitats and has become home to a large variety of animals, including some rare species.

Milton Creek itself is a shallow tidal inlet and, in the past, an important industrial waterway, connected with paper and brick manufacturing, and the cement industry.  Today it is mostly silted up.

These images were all taken in the park one weekend in November.
